Four Pillars Approach

The Peterborough Drug Strategy Task Force began in 2009 with five agencies interested in taking a comprehensive approach to addressing substance use in Peterborough City and County.

A four pillar approach is recognized internationally as an effective way to address harms associated with substance use.

The Four Pillars: Prevention, Harm Reduction, Enforcement and Treatment form a balanced, solid foundation on which to build a comprehensive community drug strategy.

The Peterborough Drug Strategy Task Force was formed by four local organizations:

  • Peterborough County-City Health Unit (Prevention)
  • PARN – Your Community AIDS Resource Network (Harm Reduction)
  • Four Counties Addiction Service Team (Treatment)
  • Peterborough Lakefield Community Police (Enforcement)
